A Watershed Year Ahead

Cost of living is set to rise like flood water in this small country. Somebody forgets to do it gradually over the past 17 years, now everyone has to face this steep hike adding to the woes of current bad economic times of low pay and poor job market. Businesses now have every justified reason to jack up their prices in the coming months. I’ve no choice but to punch more holes on my waist-belt so that I could tighten it further when ends still need to meet. Sigh!

Some F&B business have already raised their prices. More businesses will follow suit. Cost of living is set to rise like flood water and I wonder why they didn’t do it gradually in good years, why they don’t adjust water price quietly like energy cost that move up and down per oil price fluctuations.

The public transport fare is set to rise next. OMG!
Now my waist-belt has no more space to punch more holes. I’m thinking to use a nylon string instead if my belt can no longer be used.

In this country, there are only 2 groups of people motivated to save and conserve water. The first group is those who had lived through the era of water shortages and water-rationing under the constant threats from our northern neighboring country who had wanted to “potong” (cut) our water supply. The second group is those who actually pay for water used and other costs of essential services who had jacked up their prices due to this water hike. These are the people who really feel the agony and pain. I’m a member in both groups and use 75litres of water per day versus our national per capita per day usage of 148litres. The third group is those ‘bo-chup’ (care-less) as somebody is paying for it. Which group do you belong to?
