Desperate measures for desperate times

Dear Big Brother,
When this coronavirus first reached our shore, I was quite calm. I became anxious when no face mask could be found anywhere here. Then you showed us pictures that you have stockpiled face masks and there wasn’t any need to panic. But all shops were still out of stock. Your giving out free 4 face-masks for every household raised my anxiety even more. How could 4 masks last for even 6 months for the whole family? Your argument was: only use the mask when one is sick. But how do you ensure that the sick wears their masks? Most people already knew that asymptomatic people could spread the virus. Just imagine, one person without face-mask coughs or sneezes in a packed train cabin, at least 10 other persons would be infected. You probably wouldn’t understand this since you have had never need to take public transport for your daily commute.

Now is the time to use your diplomatic friendships and political influences to get your many ‘friends’ to lift their export bans on face-masks and hand sanitizers. Please bring in these stocks and allow residents here to buy them at reasonable prices. Please don’t raise prices like our supermarkets and retailers due to shortage of supplies in this difficult time of businesses downturns and lose of incomes for many.

Everyone here is trying to cope and struggling for survival to protect one-self from infection. Desperate times need desperate measures. You can call me an ‘idiot’ or ‘sia-suay’ for panic-buying and hoarding toilet-rolls. It’s better to keep safe than be a forgotten hero that ends up in a box.
