I
still find it very weird and strange that every few years, I’m asked to vote for someone, I barely know into public office to represent residents here. This
person never listen to me and do what I say. He/She just take and execute
instructions from the top!
What
the heck!
Anyway,
before ticking the box, I’m forced to reflect and ponder again on the same old
key questions:
1) Our Lives
Am I better or worse off than 5 years
ago? Why is cost of living, health care
keep rising while real wage remains stagnant? Why is our environment more dirty and our spaces so congested these days?
2) Our Jobs
Why so many of our PMET jobs are filled by FT? What skill sets they have that we are lacking and we cannot do these jobs? Why are we always trying to play catch-up on new jobs' needs and urging our PMETs to ‘re-skill, up-skill’ to take these jobs? Why didn’t we prepare our students and workers in advance for these new jobs?
3) Our Future
The future is quite bleak. Many senior citizens
cannot retire and need to continue working to live unless one has deep reserves
and financial resources. With little or no income, our CPF pension money won’t be enough to cover rising living
expenses and health care costs. Worst if one has chronic long-term illnesses. Jia-lut!
You
may have your own set of questions to ask yourself before you head to the polls.
Nothing would change unless the majority thinks and acts otherwise!
